The Students, Teachers, Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Grant Program is designed to improve K-12 school safety and security by providing students and teachers with the tools they need to recognize, respond quickly to, and help prevent acts of violence. The STOP School Violence Act of 2018 gave the Department of Justice the authority to provide awards to grantees to implement evidence-based school safety programs and technology.
Visit BJA’s 2025 STOP program page for more information about the grant program and to download the full funding opportunity. Please note that the original deadlines have been extended and the new ones are below:
- Grants.gov Deadline: 10/31/2025
- Application JustGrants Deadline: 11/10/2025
The anticipated funding available through the FY2025 BJA STOP School Violence Grant Program is 10 awards of up to $2,000,000 each in Category 1 (States), and 69 awards of up to $1,000,000 each in Category 2 (Localities, Federally Recognized Tribal Governments, Nonprofits, and School Districts). Each award is three years (36 months) in duration.
The program seeks to increase school safety by implementing:
- training to prevent student violence against others and self, including training for local law enforcement officers, school personnel, or students
- school-based behavioral threat assessments and/or intervention teams to identify school violence risks
- technologies used to identify school violence threats, such as reporting systems, or other technology solutions that will improve safety
- other evidence-based school safety strategies that improve training, threat assessments and reporting, and violence prevention
This funding cannot be used for target hardening equipment to secure schools, such as cameras, security systems, fencing, locks, drug- or firearm-detecting dogs, and more. Instead, see the COPS School Violence Prevention Program for funding for target hardening equipment. These funds can also not be used to hire armed security officers or school resource officers.
