The Michigan School Safety Initiative is a state-specific project created to serve schools, educators, and communities within Michigan, providing resources, training, and one-on-one support tailored to the state’s unique school safety needs. The STOP TTA provides support directly to grantees who receive federal funding from the STOP School Violence Program. Both projects are managed by the National Center for School Safety.
Michigan schools can apply for a STOP School Violence grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance or the Office of Community-Oriented Policing. If awarded, they would be eligible for STOP Training and Technical Assistance (TTA). However, the Michigan School Safety Initiative delivers free specialized support tailored to Michigan’s schools and communities, without requiring a grant award.
The Michigan School Safety Initiative’s resources are designed specifically for Michigan schools. However, schools nationwide can benefit from many of our resources, as well as those provided through the NCSS STOP grants project. Browse the Trainings and Resources page.
Technical assistance refers to free, one-on-one support provided to the Michigan school safety community to successfully plan, implement, and evaluate school safety strategies. This support can be provided in various ways, including:
- Step-by-step implementation support
- Personalized assistance plans
- Tailored training opportunities
- Expert referrals
- Evaluation support
- Small group peer-to-peer learning
A TA meeting can be scheduled by any member of a Michigan school, district, agency, or organization working towards building safe school environments.
